No-Fly Zone
Avoid loads that require torso bouncing or force the pads through an uncomfortable shoulder path.
Programming
Late
Stable isolation adds side-delt volume after pressing without meaningful whole-body fatigue.
Model — Double
Fallback model — Density
Keep seat height, pad contact, and top position fixed; add reps first, then one pin step.
Upper
If it hurts
Pain is information, not a challenge to push through. Stop the set if pain is sharp, worsening, or changes how you move. These are exercise-selection options, not medical diagnosis or rehabilitation advice.
Work down this list in order. Stop at the first change that removes the pain.
Step 1
Adjust seat, grip, and range until the pads track the upper arms comfortably.
Step 2
Use a one-second top pause or a three-second return.
Step 3
Cable lateral raise or seated dumbbell lateral raise.
Substitutions
Cable lateral raise or seated dumbbell lateral raise.
The Evidence
A well-fitted machine can make shoulder abduction repeatable. A poorly fitted path can erase that advantage, and the theory tier is not direct hypertrophy proof.
