No-Fly Zone
Avoid a seat or pad position that presses directly on the elbow joint, forces painful shoulder flexion, or lets the load slam into the stretched position.
Programming
Flexible
The stable isolation works after compound pressing or as the primary long-length triceps slot before lighter pushdowns.
Model — Double
Fallback model — Double
Freeze seat, pad, grip, and return depth; reach the top of the rep range without upper-arm shift before increasing the machine load.
Push
If it hurts
Pain is information, not a challenge to push through. Stop the set if pain is sharp, worsening, or changes how you move. These are exercise-selection options, not medical diagnosis or rehabilitation advice.
Work down this list in order. Stop at the first change that removes the pain.
Step 1
Adjust seat and pad placement or shorten the return until both shoulders and elbows remain comfortable.
Step 2
Use a slower eccentric or one-second lengthened pause before increasing load.
Step 3
Overhead cable extension, incline skull crusher, or single-arm overhead cable extension.
Substitutions
Overhead cable extension, incline skull crusher, or single-arm overhead cable extension.
The Evidence
The overhead supported path plausibly changes long-head loading, but this profile does not claim head-specific hypertrophy superiority. Machine fit and shoulder or elbow tolerance can outweigh the theoretical advantage.
